Laurent Fignon - RIP

I am deeply saddened to hear the news that two-time Tour De France winner, Laurent Fignon, has lost his battle with cancer. He passed away earlier today, aged just 50.

Fignon was a colourful figure, never afraid to speak his mind. A very impressive Tour winner in 1983, on his debut, and again in 1984, and Giro D'Italia winner in 1989, Fignon had the misfortune to be mostly remembered as the man who lost the 1989 Tour to Greg Lemond by the smallest ever margin, 8 seconds.

He fought his stomach cancer very publicly, even appearing as a commentator at this years Tour, but it appears that he has now lost that fight.

May he rest in peace.
